Celebrating Women in the City
International Women’s Day is celebrated around the world. The occasion is marked annually in the City of London with a breakfast in the fantasic Guild Hall, right at the heart of the City. WATC team up with the Corporation of London and the City police to celebrate womens’s success and contribution to the workplace.
The morning kicked off with a very lively set of attendees and some keen networkers. We managed to speak to around 100 attendees, some were existing WATC members and some just interested in what we had to offer. There were some interesting discussions floating around which were also helped by the Networking pointer cards that were provided as they came into the Great Library. At around 9:30am everyone moved themselves into the main hall to hear some wonderful quips from Miss Jo Brand (Patron for Refuge) Particularly inspirational were Collette O’Shea, Head of Development at Land Securities who provide some wonderful but occassionally shocking insights into her own professional journey. It was with particular sadness that we listened to a former victim of domestic violence, her moving and inspirational tale of how she has rebuilt her life after years of abuse was an inspiration to anyone unfortunate enough to be in that situation. It also brought home to the audience how important charities like Refuge are for victims and those whom support them.

We felt everyone left with a great sense of pride. Most of the proceeds from the event go to Refuge, so a great feeling of learning something new and money and time definitely well spent.
We would like to thank all of the organisers for making this a great day for all and especially to Belinda Harding and Lorraine Cussen who have always been keen supporters of WeAreTheCity.
