We all know the importance of protecting the skin during summer months, but even I find myself guilty of neglecting my skin from the harsh winter conditions. We change our wardrobe, surely it makes sense to change our skincare regime! Central heating, icy winds and what feels like constant rain all effect our skin, but armed with the right products and tips you can look and feel incredible, despite that holiday tan having disappeared!
FACE
It’s important to choose a nourishing, rich cleanser during winter. Gentle creamy face washes form a great defence against the elements and two I would recommend are; Philosophy Purity Made Simple (£18) and Biotherm Hydra-mineral Softening Mousse Cleanser (£15.30)
No matter what time of year, my number one product always on my dressing table is Advanced Night Repair by Estee Lauder. A small drop used under your moisturiser every night to help reduce the appearance of past damage, help prevent future damage and deliver high levels of hydration. During a cold English winter it will also help to brighten and even the skin tone, a worthwhile investment for any woman.
SPF is equally as important to wear during winter months as it is in the summer. UVA levels are relatively constant all year round, so even if the sun does not feel strong, it can be slowly ageing your skin, even in winter. There are many face creams which include a sun protection factor now, I use Daywear Plus by Estee Lauder. Not only does it offer UVA and UVB protection, but it contains anti-oxidants and comes in a formulation for dry skin.
BODY
It’s important during the colder months to try and avoid taking long hot bubble baths as they quickly leave the skin stripped of all natural oils, often leaving the skin dry and uncomfortable. After exfoliating in a warm shower, apply your favourite body cream, lotion, or oil to lock in moisture while your skin is still damp. My personal favourite is the Body Butters from The Body Shop, keeps the skin soft, hydrated and each smell amazing. Any other Shea butter containing moisturisers will do the job and remember to be generous!
HANDS
So many of us neglect our hands! They do some much for us so its time to give them a treat. L’Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream (£17.50) is a miracle which should be in every womans handbag. Honey, coconut and almond oil make this a beautiful super creamy formular which penetrates the skin quickly leaving the hands nourished moistured and protected, and will also prevent any cracking.
