Nowadays you need a little bit more to get ahead than the experience you have obtained through your employment or the qualifications you studied so hard for at School or University.  In a world where competition is high and opportunities are scarce, we all need to do a little more than our day jobs to get noticed and obtain the recognition we deserve.  You may well have a myriad of skills to offer, but if no one else knows they are there, opportunities to demonstrate your true capability will rarely come your way.

Raising awareness of your skills through Profile building is probably one of the most powerful tools in your career armoury, however, you have to know what tools and techniques to build it, protect it and use it for success.    There is also an element of fear to overcome in relation to shouting about your own success or achievements.

If you are interested in building your profile and finding out more, WeAreTheCity.Com would like to invite you to their  “Power of Profile” event at the re-knowned Central Working club in Bloomsbury, London.  This session is for 25 people only as the idea is to have an engaging Q&A where everyone gets the chance to participate and discuss their own challenges.

Throughout the session you will hear from WeAreTheCity’s founder about her own career journey from Analyst to Chief Operating Officer.  She will also share with you what she has learnt about the importance of profile and the tools & techniques she has used to raise her own profile both inside and outside her Corporate environment.   We will talk about Pro’s and Con’s of social media and hear an abundance of ideas and tips you can use to grow your own profile and brand.  The evening will start and end with the opportunity to network with other WeAreTheCity members over tea and nibbles.

Where your money goes

ChildLine is the 24-hour helpline for children and young people in the UK. Every day thousands of children call ChildLine, but sadly due to a lack of funds many of these calls cannot be answered. They need your help to increase the capacity of their centres, increase the number of volunteer counsellors, and ultimately make sure that no cry for help goes unheard.

Cancer Research UK  is the world’s leading cancer charity dedicated to saving lives through research. Their groundbreaking work into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer has seen survival rates double in the last 40 years.

Join us at the Little Stars Ball, Rayleigh in Essex, for a star studded charity event in aid of Cancer Research and the NSPCC’s Childline Service.

The Little Stars Ball needs you – can you help?

The Little Stars Ball is being staged to raise vital funds for Cancer Research UK and the NSPCC’s ChildLine service.
The success of the Little Stars Ball will only be made possible through the generous support of individuals, companies and their contacts who donate prizes, help us to sell tables or provide sponsorship for the event.

Please call Elaine Neal on 07930 040743 to discuss this further.

Why we need your help

ChildLine
ChildLine is the UK’s free, confidential helpline for children and young people. Trained counsellors are on hand to provide advice and support by phone and online, 24 hours a day.
It may take a child weeks, even months, to pluck up the courage to call ChildLine and ask for help. Unless we can answer more calls, our greatest fear is that the terrified child will pick up the phone, find the lines busy, and never ring again. Sadly, lack of funds means that thousands of the calls received cannot be answered.
Help us to raise funds and celebrate the 25th Anniversary year of ChildLine at The Little Stars Ball, where you will have the chance to transform the lives of some of the UK’s most vulnerable children. So that whether they call, email, text or contact us online, we’ll be here.

Cancer Research UK
Cancer Research UK is the world’s leading cancer charity dedicated to saving lives through research. Our groundbreaking work into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer has seen survival rates double in the last 40 years. But more than one in three of us will still get cancer at some point in our lives and our research, entirely funded by the public, is critical to ensuring more people beat it.

This event is being organised on a voluntary basis in order to raise funds for the NSPCC’s ChildLine service and Cancer Research UK. Any concerns or queries about the event should be directed to the organiser of the event whose contact details can be found on the previous page. The NSPCC (including ChildLine) and Cancer Research UK are not liable for any loss suffered by anyone as a result of their attendance at the event. The profit from this event will be split 50/50 between ChildLine and Cancer Research UK.
ChildLine is a service provided by the NSPCC. NSPCC is a registered charity, numbers 216401 and SC037717
Cancer Research UK is a registered charity in England and Wales (1089464) and in Scotland (SC041666).

WeAreTheCity Event – Drop in drinks photos

WeAreTheCity are proud to announce drop in drinks on the 31st of August from 6.00pm at Greens The Runner Bar in Cornhill.  This is an ideal opportunity for you to come along and meet the rest of the network and WeAreTheCity founders, Vanessa Vallely and Stewart Vallely.

The Drop in drinks was very much a great success.  With a great turn out and fantastic drinks courtesy of Greens The Runner, everyone certainly enjoyed the chance to catch up, network, chat and laugh.

A big thanks goes to all of the staff at Greens the Runner, Women In Technology and all our wonderful members.

Here are some of the photos from the event

GREEN’S RESTAURANT  AND THE RUNNER BAR, 14 CORNHILL, LONDON, EC3V 3ND (near exit 5 of Bank Tube Station) – Google map

Situated in the heart of the City, opposite The Bank of England and next to the Royal Exchange, Green’s offers two drinking and dining experiences in one venue.  This former Lloyds Bank building, full of character and history, now offers fabulous versatility for dining and social events under the famous Green’s banner.  Whether it be breakfast, lunch or dinner, private dining or exclusive banqueting events, Green’s Restaurant and The Runner Bar at Cornhill offer the perfect setting, catering for up to 450 guests.

Green’s Restaurant is accessed from The Runner Bar by the imposing central marble staircase, or period elevator and our booths overlooking The Bank of England and Royal Exchange are among the most sought after tables in the City.

Service is friendly and efficient and our staff will be delighted to recommend one of our weekly meat, fish or venison specials and  signature dishes such as “smoked haddock Parker Bowles”,  “Dorset crab salad”, Green’s cheese burger  and, of course, a plate of our famous oysters.  We pride ourselves on sourcing and using the finest ingredients in the preparation of British dishes that camouflage evolution as tradition.

The Runner Bar is open from 7:30am for that all-important coffee and bacon sandwich or breakfast meeting, through to the buzzing after-work drinks, canapé receptions, and dinner.  For an important business meeting, private dining, banqueting event, or a relaxing meal with friends and family, Green’s Cornhill is the perfect City hideaway.

Nicola Garcea, a Chartered Occupational Psychologist and Consulting Director of CAPP (The Centre of Applied Positive Psychology) will outline the importance of using strengths in order to help you perform, provide you with energy and aid happiness. The session will highlight how using your Unrealised strengths can offer you your greatest areas for development.
You can expect this lunch to be interactive, so you will be asked to get involved. But you will leave with at least five key things for you to think about and action as leaders and influencers in your business.

What Can Strengths Do for You?

This session will outline the importance of using strengths in order to help us perform, provide us with energy and aid happiness. The session will highlight how using our Unrealised strength we can capitalise on strengths that might be less well known to us but can offer us our greatest areas for development. By attending this session you will discover:

  • What are strengths?
  • Why strengths can benefit you?
  • How you can harness your Unrealised strengths?
  • How strengths can help you to achieve your goals.

Prior to this session you will be provided with a complimentary code to access CAPP’s strengths assessment and development tool Realise2.

About the speakers

Nicola Garcea – Nicky is a Chartered Occupational Psychologist and Consulting Director of CAPP (The Centre of Applied Positive Psychology).  Nicky has delivered work in America, Argentina, Canada, Europe, Nigeria and Venezuela.

She has also managed long-term client projects with Aviva, BT, Birmingham City Council, London Underground, Royal Mail and Ernst & Young.

At CAPP Nicky and the CAPP team deliver work spanning the employee life cycle. Her area of specialist expertise is in Strengths-based recruitment, People Management, and Reorganisation. Nicky’s approach to consulting combines Strengths and Business Psychology with Organisational Development.  Nicky is a member of Occupational Psychology Division of the British Psychological Society, a registered Healthcare Professional and a certified NTL Organisational Development Practitioner.
Along with Alex Linley and Sue Harrington, Nicky has edited the Oxford Handbook of Positive Psychology and Work which was published by Oxford University Press in 2009.

Jessica Pryce-Jones - Jessica Pryce-Jones is CEO of iOpener, a human asset management consultancy operating in the UK, USA, Dubai and South Africa.
She thinks that lots of people, teams and organizations would achieve more and manage better if they understood the connection between productivity and happiness at work. Recognizing this would mean that they’d truly achieve their potential while enabling their own – and their organization’s – success. Her book, ‘Happiness at Work: Maximizing Your Psychological Capital For Success’ was published earlier this year in the UK and in the USA.
Jessica founded iOpener to help people to recognise and extend their capabilities. She believes that everyone has the ability to do more: the secret lies in inner momentum and formulating practical solutions. She is a frequent speaker and media commentator, having taken part as an expert in the BBC series ‘Making Slough Happy’, featured in a CNN special and written many articles about iOpener’s work.
She lectures and teaches senior executives at London Business School, Chicago Booth, Oxford (Saïd) and Judge Business Schools. She also works with senior executives and leadership teams. Her career started at Rothschild’s Bank in Paris and she then spent seven years in the insurance market before starting working as a consultant.

All proceeds will go to the Training for Life Charity. So the event will be guilt free also!

The turn out of  women speaks for itself. The venue was just ‘spot on’ and with London fashion week in progress the fashion show was very well received and an appropriate touch’.
J Markos
