How can we bust gender stereotypes in the Financial Services and Technology industries?

The Equality Committee and Financial Services Technology Panel would like to invite you to our International Women’s Day Event: Busting Gender Stereotypes on Tuesday 5th March, beginning at 5.30pm at the Information Technologists’ Hall. We would like to encourage all members to invite female colleagues to this IWD event with a view to expanding WCIT female membership.

How can we bust gender stereotypes in the Financial Services and Technology industries?

Building on the International Women’s Day theme of “Inspiring Inclusion”, this event will give the floor to a wide range of voices, who have grappled with this challenge in their careers and lives, on how we can make the technology industry truly accessible, from schools and colleges to the workplace and beyond. The event will aim to draw up key recommendations on how we can overcome myths and bust stereotypes in the industries, and how we can ensure that female voices, perspectives, experience, and skills are given full and equal weight across the sectors. We believe that addressing this for women is only part of the effort needed to truly “Inspire Inclusion”.

Did you know:

  • Recent research by PwC found that only 3% of female students would name technology as their top career choice?
  • According to the FCA, only around 17% of senior financial services roles are occupied by women?
  • A report in April 2023 by EY estimated that the gender pay gap in FinTech stands at around 22%?

The statistics above are just a snapshot of the challenge across the wider technology and financial services sectors.

We look forward to welcoming you at this panel event which will provide the opportunity to discuss the issues around gender stereotyping.
