Inspirational Woman: Kelly Angood | UK Manager of Design, Tech and Hardware at Indiegogo UK and Founder of The Pop-Up Pinhole Co

Tell us a bit about yourself, background and what you do currently

5057762553My Name is Kelly Angood, I’m the UK Manager of Design, Tech and Hardware at Indiegogo UK – the world’s global crowdfunding platform.

I’m passionate about revolutionising the way products are made by giving creators and makers access to capital, and my mission at Indiegogo is to work with entrepreneurs to help them fund what matters to them.

I’m also the founder of The Pop-Up Pinhole Co, educational and fun do-it-yourself pinhole camera kits, designed in London and made in the UK.

Did you ever sit down and plan your career?

Never! I always follow my heart, which has given me a very varied career from working as a set designer, illustrator, an ad-land strategist, founding my own business and now working in crowdfunding.

Have you faced any challenges along the way and if so, how did you deal with them?

There are always challenged in life and work, but the most important thing is to dealt with bumps in the road as calmly as possible and try and see it from the other person’s point of view as well as your own.

What advice would you give someone who wishes to move in to a leadership position for the first time?

To never forget what it feels like to be the intern, or the person that makes the coffee run.

How do you manage your own boss?

I’ve been very lucky to always have very understanding bosses, which have been more like peers than helicopter like micro-managers. I think the key thing to remember is that there is always something you can learn from them, and they are your boss for a reason.

On a typical workday, how do you start your day and how does it end?

I usually start with some sort of exercise to clear my mind, maybe a run or a session at the gym. Them I move straight on to emails in the morning followed by calls in the afternoon. I like to be quite ridged with my time and use tools like Calandar.ly to books meetings and schedule calls. As Indiegogo is based in San Francisco, with a 7 hour time difference, my day often ends with joining a meeting with HQ. The end of the day nearly always ends with eating or drinking something delicious.
