Wheelie Bins -Our members write….

Are all these bins wheelie necessary!!! Green, the very word conjures up fresh, new, sparkling, why then is the reality so different, as in washed out cat food cans, rotting compost and wellies made of pressed grass !!

Of course I see the sense in saving the planet and a very wholesome thought it is too, but recycling takes time and effort that doesn’t always translate into everyday life. With a full time job and children to care for plus school and all its associated activities, garbage sorting has to come low on the list of priorities although if you don’t do it, you will be going to work simply to pay the fines !!!

recycling takes time and effort that doesn’t always translate into everyday life”

Essex council are now delivering the residents three (yes you heard correctly) wheelie bins for recycling, that is paper and cardboard, kitchen waste and glass and plastic.Once again, the green purpose is very admirable but the practicalities of finding enough space on your drive for 3 quite bulky bins is not, plus the simple task of putting your rubbish out becomes a major outing for the family, with each member standing by one of your three brand new bins, and mother stating which goes where and woe betide you if you put the wrong rubbish in the right bin or vice versa.

It is similar with a compost bin, love the concept, hate the smell, and speaking of smell, the kitchen waste bin, otherwise known as Bin No 2 might have a problem too !

So, even though there is not space on my drive to swing a organic cat, I will dutifully sort my garbage into the three bins and hope that no more categories are forthcoming, because for all the above, I do want to help save the planet and preserve my square of country heaven, I just hope that I don’t end up with more bins than drive to achieve it.
