When Orange walks the talk: Women for change award to Maria Raharinarivonirina from Madagascar | 2013 Women’s Forum

UnknownThe Orange Foundation, in partnership with Marie Claire magazine announced at the Women’s Forum a new award, recognising women actors of change and drivers of growth. Presented in front of a very attentive audience, 5 videos highlighted the work and the world of 5 incredible inspirational women.

Maria Raharinarivonirina in Madagascar told us how the conditions for women in the rural south of the country are miserable. Why? Because the traditional society is centred around zebu cattle and therefore women come second. Most of them are disadvantaged, illiterate and have essentially no rights. Maria’s association, SOS Children’s Villages, is a project to create three new shelters, renovate the existing ones and provide independence for women of the zebu society in southern Madagascar. Maria won the Orange Foundation award, the project will directly benefit 810 women.
