How to go from Ordinary to Extraordinary

Happy women jumpingHow we do anything is how we do everything. It is our daily rituals and standards that will determine the quality of our lives.

The difference between people who live an average life and those who are truly successful, fulfilled and happy comes down to standards. This morning you woke up with a choice…to take control of your life… or let life take control of you.

Here are some of the choices I have made and standards I have put in place in my own life over the last decade…

Set Yourself Goals

Have clarity about what you want in your life and what you want to get out of it; whether this is for the short term or the longer term. And don’t get demotivated by the hurdles you may potentially have to overcome in order to get to your own individual endgame. Instead, set yourself daily, weekly and monthly goals. A good start is by pinpointing five things that you would like to achieve each day. Write them down and, as you achieve them, make sue you cross them off.  There is a massive sense of achievement that comes with crossing off a goal and putting it behind you.

Stress is not only a major contributor to weight gain, but it is also a huge barrier to your ability to live a full and happy life.

Exercise

It may seem obvious, when I say that doing exercise gets your whole body moving, but take a moment to think about it. A good workout effects a physical and an emotional response, sending blood all around your body to your heart, lungs, brain and muscles. It means everything works a little bit harder and a little bit smarter, making sure that you’re in top condition to go about your work, and play. You’ll leave the gym feeling energised, motivated and ready to take on anything.

Get Some Ying For Your Yang

Most busy professionals often feel that they don’t have the time to slow down. Doing something like Bikram yoga helps me inject some calm into my own busy life. Try whatever works best for you; yoga, tai chi, hanging out with friends, gardening – whatever makes you feel happy and relaxed. Making sure you regularly undertake an activity that has a calming effect on your body and your mind will re-energise you and help you de-stress. Life is actually quite amazing, we just need to take the time out to appreciate it.

Have a Hearty Breakfast

It’s a cliché, but it’s so true. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. The term originates from the phrase ‘breaking your fast’ – in short, your body has been starved of food all night and you need to give it the vital energy it needs as soon as you wake to get you through the day. Making sure your breakfast is packed with protein means you’ll stay fuller for longer – stopping you craving sweet things and giving you sustained energy throughout your day.

Dress To Impress

The ability to dress well is a sign of intelligence. Make an effort when dressing yourself everyday as this will leave you feeling empowered. There’s a reason why it’s called a ‘million dollar suit’. Grooming and posture convey messages about your capability, reliability and efficiency so go out and send the message you want to be sending to the world.

Surround Yourself With Extraordinary People

It is said that you are most likely to end up living a similar life to the five people you spend the most time with. Therefore, if you want to be extraordinary, spend time with extraordinary people. The rest will fit into place.

Eat Well and Look After Your Body

Everyone admires something materialistic. Personally, it’s sports cars and my favourite is a Lamborghini. Sports car fan too? Then guess what, your body is the best sports car you will ever own and it makes absolutely no sense to put anything other than the best fuel into it.

Don’t Stress

Stress is not only a major contributor to weight gain, but it is also a huge barrier to your ability to live a full and happy life. Change from negative to positive. I have worked with individuals who have such bad days that they call me up and request to see me immediately. After simply talking through the situation they are in and highlighting their thought patterns and approaches, I am able to take them from stressed out to chilled out – or from anxious to excited. Your thoughts become your reality… so choose your day.

It is said that you are most likely to end up living a similar life to the five people you spend the most time with. Therefore, if you want to be extraordinary, spend time with extraordinary people.

Balance

We need balance in every area of our lives to exist in a calm, happy and energised space. I personally tailor my programs to help my clients achieve this across what I see to be the Four Pillars; Focus, Nutrition, Movement, and Lifestyle. Crack this, and you will truly take your life from ordinary from extraordinary.

Every day is a miracle. Treat it like one. Take care of your home, live with purpose and intention.
