Tap into your talents: Lucrative passive income ideas for busy mums

It’s a full-time job, being a stay-at-home mum, but, unfortunately, you don’t get a full-time paycheck at the end of each month. This can make it difficult for you to meet your payments and may reduce your chances of making any permanent savings.

However, you don’t need to sacrifice that all-important time with the kids in order to start making some money. Instead, you just need to have some ideas as to how you can turn that valuable time when the kids are at school (or asleep), into a business opportunity.

Firstly, you’ll need to remember that self-discipline is going to be really important here, as is focus and organisation. Initially, it may be a little trial and error as you get used to your new routine. For example, you may find you work better in a morning when the kids have just gone to school, or you may be more productive when they’ve gone to bed at night. You may also feel like giving up, especially when you’ve got a deadline to meet and the baby won’t stop crying. But persevere, because the end results could be more than worth it.

Here are some ideas as to how you can make a lucrative income from home:

Affiliate marketing

This is incredibly easy to start doing and doesn’t require much, just a laptop and an account with some of the top companies. You don’t need to own your own products to kick start this either, as you’ll be promoting other organisations’ products – and when someone buys them, you’ll take a cut! And what’s more, you don’t need to provide support, deliver the product, or produce an inventory – you just take all the benefits of a sale, with none of the hassles.

All you need to do is promote these products (using a special link you’re provided with) by posting them in articles you write, on social media, through your blog, or on any other online platform. There are a number of popular networks that offer you the chance to do this, including Amazon. With Amazon’s affiliates program you can promote almost anything you want to, from car parts to kitchen gadgets. The best bit? Up to 10 per cent commission is available for most of the things they’re selling on their website. You won’t have to wait long for your payment either.

Blogging

There are a number of different opportunities available when it comes to writing online content. Firstly, you could produce your own blog, which not only gives you the chance to rant and rave about the latest goings on in your life or to share your favorite recipes, but it also allows you to make money through affiliate marketing. By adding things like sponsored advertisements and Google AdSense, you can start to generate money overnight.

You’ll also get to choose what your blog’s about, what type of advertisements you want to feature, and what products you’re going to promote. Therefore, you don’t have to advertise anything you don’t want to and can make sure the featured ads are in keeping with your blog’s theme.

Alternatively, or alongside this, you may also want to become a freelance writer for other websites. There is a fantastic selection of online platforms that present different opportunities for freelance writers, including http://www.blogging.com. These are ideal if you like to write about different things and you don’t want to cover the same topics all the time.

Selling your photographs

If you’re an avid photographer and you like to get creative with your shots, you may want to consider selling some of your photographs. There is a whole host of sites looking to buy digital photos, and the better the photographs, the more money you will make. Ideal if you like taking photos anyway or have an extensive portfolio you can tap into straight away.

Some popular photo buying sites include 123RF, Shutterstock, Getty Images, and Dreamstime.

Setting up an online store

Selling your own products online has never been easier, thanks to a number of online stores. So, if you’ve got creative ideas and you love to produce crafts, you might want to consider opening up your own store. You can do this through a platform like Etsy or eBay, and will just need to spread the word about your fantastic products to start generating an income. Some people even manage to turn this into a full-time business, it just takes a creative idea and some good marketing tactics.
