Vacancy of the week: Finance Consulting – Banking & Capital Markets – Senior Manager | London

In support of our growth, PwC’s Consulting practice is currently recruiting Managers for Financial Services sector, specifically for its Operational Finance and Performance Management Consulting team.

As a Manager you are expected to primarily work on client engagements, contributing to and leading finance change projects (‘delivery’), although you will also spend time supporting the development of finance solutions in the Financial Services area (‘development’).  As a member of the FS Finance Consulting Group you will be closely working with and reporting into Senior Managers, Director and Partner Grades.

Finance Consulting is a successful and fast growing team of over 200 people that has already established a strong reputation in the market place. We are helping organisations carve out a more influential and strategic role for Finance in the evolving world of modern business. We support Finance to address the challenges of achieving increasingly demanding standards of control and reporting whilst continuously driving for efficiency and simultaneously building the value it delivers through insight and its relationship with the business.

We provide full lifecycle support to CFO’s on Finance function redesign including advising on the optimal organisation for their business, designing efficient and effective processes and systems and providing robust end-to-end support through implementation to deliver change against a BAU backdrop and to drive for the timely realisation of benefits.

We help clients with a diverse range of issues which include:

  • Assessing and improving the role, organisation and effectiveness of finance functions;
  • Delivering on a Shared Services or outsourcing agenda, including set-up, design and implementation;
  • Finance function strategy and design, including assessing and improving key finance processes;
  • Implementing or optimising their investment in Enterprise Resource Planning;
  • Working to implement and improve Enterprise Performance Management processes;
  • Developing feasibility studies and business cases;
  • Developing business models;
  • Supporting cost reduction exercises, with robust benefit realisation plans;
  • Embedding regulatory change;
  • Optimising Corporate Treasury;
  • Benchmarking the finance function;
  • Finance IT strategy.

  • Successfully managing projects with PwC and client teams;
  • The quality and timeliness of project deliverables;

  • Managing the project economics through on-going review and communication with the project team.
  • Providing general advice to clients on core areas of Operational Finance;
  • Identifying further service opportunities, while client side, based on good understanding of the client’s needs, combined with a knowledge of PwC’s capabilities.
Development
  • Contributing to our continued thought leadership around Finance function design, processes, policies, strategy, governance, reporting and systems;
  • Supporting on business development activities, leveraging our strong existing client relationships, multi-disciplined colleagues and intellectual collateral to develop appropriate solutions to assist clients;
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with senior staff at our key FS clients.

Requirements

We require experienced and credible leaders who have the technical skills and experience in order to demonstrate that they have:

Essential:

  • Deep Financial Services experience specifically Retail Banking or Capital Markets
  • Managed change projects or multiple workstreams within complex change projects;
  • Led and developed teams of people;
  • Ability in stakeholder management and relationship building;
  • Experience in one of either Operational Finance or Performance Management:
  • Operational Finance : Supported the development of solutions to Finance function challenges in the following areas:
    • Shared Service Centres / Outsourcing
    • Process redesign
    • Operating Model, including business partnership roles;
  • Performance Management : Experience of delivering projects in one or more of the following areas: Planning, Budgeting and Forecasting, Financial Consolidation and Group Reporting, Management Reporting and Analysis, Profitability and Cost Management and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) / Balanced Scorecard definition;
  • A knowledge of EPM:
    • systems and relevant software (including Business Intelligence);
    • data solutions and related issues within FS clients; and/ or
    • best practice processes.
  • Previous Experience in senior positions either in Finance Departments in Financial Services companies or consulting to them ;
  • Education to degree level plus either formal accounting qualification or equivalent understanding of accounting principles.
Desirable:
  • Experience in key FS industry Finance issues e.g. Solvency II, Basel II/ III, IFRS for Financial Services, MCEV, FDG regulatory, etc. is highly desirable but not essential;
  • Used a Lean approach to process / cost optimisation;
  • Used benchmarking techniques and data.
