Work It to ‘Werk’ It

So you’re at work and the only thing getting you through the day is the thought of going out and having a great time with the girls later on.

Okay, it doesn’t always go this way, but we’ve all had that mad rush leaving a place knowing we have to make our way to our next location in, 5 minutes. You’re usually left with no choice but to rip your work clothes off in the back of the taxi and change into something more suitable and use that small dirty mirror that comes with the blusher to top up your makeup.

We don’t all have a Mary Poppins handbag so I will be showing you how to transform your look from daytime to evening with the bare minimum.

Let’s kick things off with makeup.

Face and Brows

Firstly, I moisturised my skin and applied Benefit Porefessional Primer to minimize pores and prevent the foundation from caking. Then I buffed in Rimmel True Match Foundation using Real Technique’s Expert Face Brush.

After blending the foundation I used Soap and Glory Trick or Treatment concealer for under my eyes and highlighted areas I wanted to stand out like my nose bridge, the centre of my forehead, my chin and my cupid’s bow.

Using Nars Laguna bronzer, I contoured my cheekbones slightly and gently brushed the excess on the temples of my forehead and jawline for a more defined face and sun-kissed look.

You can’t neglect the brows, so pencil them in slightly for a more defined shape. Make sure you are using a light hand and that you are mimicking the shape of your own hairs.

Eyes

I put a wash of M.A.C Naked Lunch over the eyelids to keep it subtle yet pretty.

Brush M.A.C Sautin Taupe in the crease and outer corner of the eye for added depth. Make sure to blend it out with a clean, fluffy brush to get rid of harsh lines.

Time to lengthen those lashes! I used Soap and Glory Thick and Fast mascara.

Blush and Lips

I wanted to keep things really pretty and youthful so I added a pink blush to the apples of my cheeks. This is Pink Passion from Elf.

To get your make-up through a busy day be sure to set your make up with a powder! I used Soap and Glory One Heck of a Blot.

After sealing your make up, make sure to seal your kiss. This tinted lip balm is super moisturising and the golden shimmer makes lips look juicy whilst keeping things suitable for work. You wouldn’t believe this is from Primark! I got it from their P.S Love Beauty range.

Hair

I started by applying a heat protection to my hair and brushing it through.

I’ve chosen a sophisticated side bun as it is a fashionable hairstyle but still appropriate for the office. I started by curling my hair using the Babyliss Curl Secret. Not only will this add volume and texture to the bun, but it means my hair will still be curly for later on.

Then I teased my hair with a teasing comb to add even MORE volume.

It’s pretty simple to achieve the side bun. Firstly, pull all of your hair to one side and twist.

Keep twisting into a bun like shape and grab hold of it and tie with a hairband. Don’t worry, it should look a little crazy at this point!

Start to tug at the bun and play with it by pinning with bobby pins until you are happy with it.

It’s up to you how you style the rest, but I like to pull a few strands of hair out to frame my face.

And there we have it!

So you’ve survived work and all you have time for is a quick freshen up and you’re out again. Whether you’ve popped to the public toilets or you’re settling for the taxi as your dressing table, here’s how you can transform your daytime look into something a bit more glamorous for the evening.

Evening Hair

It really is time to let your hair down and have fun. All you need to do is pull out the bun and comb through your curls with your fingers to loosen them… you don’t even need a brush!

I then like to spray my hair with hairspray so I can dance all night without my curls dropping! Enjoy this hairspray action shot!

Evening Makeup

Now if you’re anything like me, you’ll be in need of a powder at the end of the day! A great alternative for powder is blotting tissues.

You can get away with more of a dramatic look for night time so I have used the colour Creep, a shimmery black, from the Urban Decay Naked Pallette 1 in the crease and outer corner like I did previously with Sautin Taupe, but this time take it under the lash line to darken the eyes even more.

I ran Extreme from Collection 2000 along my lash line as liquid eyeliner is a simple yet effective way of dolling up any look.

A bright lip is also a great trick for adding some razzmatazz to your makeup. I love the Apocalips Lip Laquers as they are a cross between a lipstick and a lip gloss so they are guaranteed to last you the night. I am using the colour Big Bang.

And here is the finished look!

Evening Outfit

If you fancy a change of clothes don’t fear heavy packing as all I did was swap my office pencil skirt for a glitzy one and added a statement necklace to my plain black top to completely transform my office attire into something fit for a party!
